Young Arts

Young Arts is an initiative of the Arts Society which aims to inspire young people with a lasting enthusiasm for the arts together with an awareness of our immense cultural and artistic heritage.

This year has been a quiet year with a couple of events failing to come to fruition.

St Peters School, Southbourne.

We were once again pleased to support St Peters School on their trip to Cornwall with a large group of their art students. This has proved to be extremely popular and a huge benefit to their forthcoming exams, and enjoyed by all. While there, they were able to visit Tate St Ives, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Gardens, among many other art related projects, including attending workshops.

6th Form Art Lecture.

In January we held our annual art lecture at the Arts University Bournemouth. This year the University agreed to allowing us to hold this in their main theatre, giving the students a chance to sample being in a university atmosphere. The lecture was “The Art of Illusion”, delivered by John Ericson, which was received extremely well by the students. We had many comments from the visiting teachers who emphasised how much their students benefitted from this event, not forgetting the wonderful tea and cakes kindly provided by some members or our society. Once again both Poole and Wimborne & Blandford agreed to share the cost of this event.

We had agreed to support a school trip to London by Bourne Academy , but unfortunate due to staff illness this was put on hold.
